High Plains Camping | Oakley, Kansas

High Plains Camping is located within the Central time zone. Office hours fluctuate from season to season.

  • We've been told the park is more like a B&B. We don't deliver breakfast to you, but we offer some personalized care. We have limited staff so you're cared for by a select few (and sometimes just one).
  • We don't use uniforms because we aren't necessarily welcoming you to the business ... we're truly welcoming you to our home ... you are 'home' for the night. It's in this regard that guests have often referred to us as the B&B of RV parks.
  • On the other side of the same coin is the fact that with so few to handle so much, there may be times you find a door sign telling you how to self-register and how to select a spot that fits your needs. Although we keep this situation to a minimum, life does happen and there are times we can't be in the office (appointments, trade shows to help us improve our park, time to sleep, etc.). In times such as these we guide you with signs.
  • Within walking distance of our High Plains Camping is A Moment In Time Antiques.
  • The Colonial Steakhouse offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, not to mention catering for groups using the park's Sunflower Barn for their social events.
  • Interests around here are vast. Genealogy research is a common hobby for our guests. Hunting is also an option. Check out the online hunting information from the State of Kansas.
  • In 2008 the Oakley area gained an ATV track, Oakley Motor Sports, which is open to the public. Presently too little information is available but please check back and we'll update the page as we learn more details.

Why Camping Makes The Ultimate Family Vacation

Have you been considering taking your next family vacation soon? If you have been thinking about it do you know where you are going and what you are going to do? For an alternative idea on a family vacation why not consider going camping for your next trip. Camping is a fun and healthy way to bond as a family.

Although it is nice to hear that camping is a fun way to spend your next family vacation, you may be wondering exactly why that is. You may not be aware of this but camping is regarded as one of the best and most popular American pastimes. The reasons for that are as numerous as the reasons for why it is one of the best vacations a family can have. Many of the reasons for why camping should be an option for your next family vacation are outlined below.

One of the many reasons why camping is perfect for family vacations is because camping is in activity that is ideal for individuals of all different ages. Even newborns can be taken camping fairly easily. As long you as you keep a good eye on your kids camping is safe for even the youngest child.

Helping to make camping one of the most popular pastimes is the sheer variety of camping styles a family can get involved in. Every family will be able to find a style that suits them. As an example, decide on the amount of time that you want to spend camping. Go for a single day, an entire weekend or a whole fortnight if that's what you're into. With this flexibility comes the ability to plan the entire vacation around all family members. In addition to the length of your camping adventure, you will also find that you can camp a number of different ways. For example, most people think tents when they think of camping but it can also be done in a motor home.

Another one of the reasons camping is a great past time is the quantity and variety of activities available. Although camping is considered a fun activity all on its own, you will find that it isn't the only activity that you and your family can participate in. Camping is very popular so a lot of parks go all out to attract customers. Things you may find on modern camp sites include swimming pools, onsite playgrounds, and hiking trails. What does this mean for the average camper? It means that, in addition to camping, you and your family may enjoy swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, and much more!

The cost of camping is another one of the many reasons why camping makes for great family vacations. Most campsites will have a fee but compared to the average hotel and the like the cost is very affordable. You don't need a lot of equipment for camping but what you do need can be purchased very cheaply from discount stores both online and offline.

In summing up it's clear to see that camping has huge advantages over the more traditional form of family vacation no matter what the age groups in your family are. As fun and exciting as camping can be, it is important that you remember to keep an eye on your children at all times, especially younger children.

Don't Ruin a Fun Camping Trip by Leaving Your Vital Camping Gear at Home

In order to have the best possible camping experience, you need to be equipped with the right information before you leave for your trip. To get the most out of your camping experience, it's best to stay in a tent rather than a cabin which can be expensive. In addition, you need to have the right kind of camping gear. Be sure that the gear you take along is exactly what you need.

A great example of camping gear that might be handy is a foam sleeping pad. These pads are great when you are stuck trying to sleep on uneven or rocky ground. Another item you should consider taking besides your sleeping pads is a sleeping bag. It's great to be comfortable, but you don't want to freeze if it happens to get cold while you are camping.

While it is important to bring necessary camping items, you should also be sure that your caravan is in proper condition. You don't want to get stuck somewhere when you are trying to get to the campground. Also, try to find a campground that is suitable for you. If you can find one that is near your home, that is a good site to choose. Especially if you are a first time camper.

Now that you know where you are going to camp, it's time to make your checklist of camping gear. This is necessary so you don't forget any of the camping items you need. Things that should be on your list include: a first aid kit, flashlights, a tent, sleeping bags, a sleeping pad, a portable stove, and maybe even a portable fridge. Don't forget to put any food or drinks you want to bring inside the fridge.

Finally, it's time to plan some fun activities that you can all do together. Swimming, canoeing, hiking, and fishing are all lots of fun and most campgrounds can accommodate these types of activities. Just remember, if you bring everything you need, then all you have to do once you get to your campsite is enjoy the experience.

If you are looking for great deals on a comfortable sleeping pad, then check out Jack's latest website. Here you will find a variety of top quality foam sleeping pads to help you sleep comfortably on any type of terrain.
